Mechanical hard drives only have a limited life of ~ 5 years.
My last 2 laptop computers had mechanical hard drives, and when they crashed, the laptops became junk.
My present laptop, a HP "Stream" has a solid-state hard drive.

Yeah, I've been lucky and have had some last upto 10 years, my specific drives had a high failure rate one lasted 3 years, the other lasted 9 months, which isn't too bad, but I'm considering on going with a SSD 120GB.
