Yah, and if there is a place that sells them then sometimes they are hard to find. I have a wound that I needed to buy special wound care products for so a nurse told me about her favourite company to order from. Turned out they are a wound care and incontinence supplier, and a lot of their diapers are imported from Europe. This place doesn't really advertise much, or make themselves known, they just get lots of people that were refered there from nurses and doctors. So I have this wound I have to thank for finding this place.

Talking about biodegradebility in the landfill, wouldn't a thinker diaper take longer to biodegrade, so would you be any better off? Or do they not degrade at all? Cloth solves that problem, but adds the problem of washing and dumping phosphates into the water table. I think your best bet is to go with that which is comfortable and works for you. Personally Darkfinn, I wish I could be in my diapers more often, but circumstances prevents. Kudos to you....and where do you work where there's no air conditioning in N.C. I feel for you, man!

And as far as degrading diapers goes. The plastic outer shell and tapes are what really does not break down... the inner "stuffing" will degrade pretty rapidly. |

Right here around the coast, it hovers around 100 nearly every day for at least a week in the summer. I'm glad I have air conditioning. On another note, couldn't you rip off the plastic of the diaper and recycle that? It would be a bit of a hassle, but you'd be helping out more than throwing it away.

I still want to believe using cloth diapers is the only right way of doing it. If not for adults (which is very impractical), then let it be true for infants.
The reason we all used to use cloth diapers is because they last. We don't wear paper clothes just because it's easier to make. Saying stuff like "cloth diapers are worse for the environment compared to disposable ones" is kind of silly if you think we all wear cloth clothes instead of disposable ones. More to the topic though, the author might be right on a lot of points, but he must not forget that a longer lasting diaper actually contains more absorbing polymer and more material to spread the liquid. Which inevitably means there's more waste per diaper. Still, he makes a good point people should be able to sleep through the night instead of being woken up every 4 hours, which isn't much better than a bedwetting alarm. |
