Personally I think it's cool. I did like the old "blades" style of navigation, but this one works well too. I'll add some pros to counter all the cons you threw out there.
Parties: This makes Halo so much easier to organize. Everyone's in a LIVE party, not a Halo party, so if you get booted or whatever, you can still talk to your friends and find out when they're ready for another game. It's all around better than private chats. Netflix: Self-explanatory. Stream HD video from your Netflix queue without a DVD. Contained ads: Remember how every screen had 2-3 ads on it? Well, now they're all in their own bar. You can flip past that bar every time and never have to deal with annoying attention-grabbing banners. Friends are more recognizable: It got very tedious to read through a long list of scrunched usernames to find the one person I wanted to invite to a party. From the dashboard, you see their name, avatar (which you should instantly recognize as your friend), and paraphernalia from the game they're playing. In addition, you can see what they're doing in the game, not just which game. Everything's faster: As an IST major I know the importance of making an interface smooth and fast. It annoyed me that when I go through a menu I had to wait 1-2 seconds before it loaded. Now everything loads instantly. You have to love that. |
