ubuntu audio issues

So, I decided to put Ubuntu 8.10 on this hunk of junk, my only problem is that Secondlife makes no sounds and Youtube doesnt make any sounds, I know my soundcard is working because I can listen to MP3s, Watch movies with full sound, etc etc, what do I need to do?

Did it work before? Are you using pusleaudio?

Well, pulseaudio uses ALSA underneath and as far as I can tell is the default in Intrepid. The reason I ask is because I had some issues at first getting sound to work when I upgraded from Hardy to Intrepid.
