Might have to go that route, snapcrotch. I have my son's old IBM ThinkPad laptop here beside me which the printer is hooked up to. The graphics card is going up causing the screen to go through color spasms. I tried looking at YT vids on it and my eyes could only take so much of the spazzing effect.

We do have our original HP desktop which needs a new power supply and monitor. Have to see how much it would cost to get that up and running as opposed to a new laptop.

Do you think by disabling Flash 7 the problem would go away? I can at least do that, but don't know if that would effect being able to view vids on youtube. When it comes to computers I know very little about how to diagnose problems. I just know how to use the programs needed to do my job.

Since you're not able to view youtube anyway, would it really matter if disabling flash also disabled the things that depend on it? At least that way you might not have the crashes.

Oh, I can still view youtube videos alright. And it doesn't lock up when I'm attempting to view one. It happens as I'm paging through the video listings. Sooner or later it locks and the IE error message box appears a few moments later. I've gotten so, soon as it locks I just click YT off and immediately reopen it again. Same thing happens with the Yahoo groups I'm with, though it doesn't happen nearly as often on Yahoo, and very rarely it'll happen on ebay. I thought of disabling Flash to see if it interferes with youtube. Think I'll try that tonight. If it does, I'll just enable it again. Thanks for your suggestion.

what about gaining root/admin rights on the laptop, would that be a viable option?
