Do not do it, go with Microsoft!! Their work on it will not void the warrenty & then if it fails again, you can send it back to them & they will do one of two things;

1) Repair yours again
or
2) Send you a referbed 360,

in any case, you are covered by a MICROSOFT factory warrenty, something Craigslist can not say!! Microsoft will send a box, packaging supplies, & a pre-paid shipping label to your home!! All you have to do is pack up your 360(console only, nothing else) & take in into a UPS store & have them do the rest!! Wait it out while Microsoft fixes it & then in no time you have a working 360 back!! It is easy to do, I got "Red-Ringed" & my dealings with Microsoft were pleasent & they did an outstanding job on every aspect on getting things made right!!

seriously...i got you covered in less than an hour...grab 2 of the biggest fluffiest towels you have...plug your 360 in and then wrap it up in the towels and leave it for 20 minutes...unwrap it, turn the power off and leave it for a further 20...turn it back on and you'll be blasting Covenant or Shredding on GH INSTANTLY

Like the others have already said, do it through Microsoft. My friend had his fixed in their warranty and they were great about it! (they actually replaced it, and accidentally sent him the old unit too!)

The guy on craigslist (even if he is very knowledgeable and legit) will not have the tools and replacement parts to properly fix it... especially since those rings could represent many different problems.

i didnt read all the way through the forum (sue me) but i got the infamous RED RINGS OF DEATH yesterday. i called microsoft about an hour ago and they are going to SHIP IT and FIX IT for FREE. as long as its less than 3 years old, you are safe
