Well I will admit that Twilight Princess had a better story, but not only because of graphics...It's also because they have more room to make a longer game, and they have more experience to have a better story

But, which is more immersive, the one with well designed levels, story and great graphics....or the one with an OK story and linear dungeons.

Note: the original Zelda(along with the sequals) are great in their own right as classic games, but cannot be compared to modern games.

Well they are more immersive, but that doesn't make it a better game...Since we are talking about Zelda games what about Minish Cap? That didn't have the best graphics (better than original Zelda of course), but it was still what I would call immersive in it's own way...But they could have had the graphics even poorer and it could have been as immersive...Newer Pokemon games haven't felt any less or more immersive to me, than the older ones

Note where I said level design can make up for graphics, Minish cap for what it was, had a good level design, but to be honest I really didn't like the game.

I have to say that Gameplay is the top in what i look for, though you must have a good balance. I am ok with things that are retro, or even just poor grafics, though it would like to have a game now and then that is higher on the quality and gameplay. For example I love the little things that one can find in Oblivian. The sceneory is wonderful, best is the shimmering isles though the detail put into the average location is just as amazing. This dose not change my opinion of the gameplay, still just as good a game to sit down and release a little frustration.
So I am always looking for another great gameplay game, though I hope it will also have somthing to offer in way of the graphics.

Personally, I think LoZ: a Link to the Past for the SNES hasn't be topped, overall, by any of the other zelda games. For me that game goes beyond a mere "classic"

If I still had my NES, I'd have been playing Tetris on it, rather than buy that technoed out version for the 360 =/

Also, in regards to the Gameplay with less than suitable graphics... Killer 7. If you havent checked it out, I suggest you do so. The gameplay is so unique and so enthralling, yet the graphics look almost a step below PS1, kind like the same team from Interplay who made Out Of This World for the SNES designed it. But hands down, the game is an awesome, weird, masterpiece in its own right.

And as for good graphics with shitty gameplay... Dark Sector. No further explanation needed.
