Same here ^

Also: Not all of these options are applicable to all users; Gateway largely doesn't exist in Europe anymore either...

The one and only brand name desktop that I personally owned was my very first desktop which was a Cicero. Not sure if they are even making computers anymore though. It was a good quality computer, never had any problems with it. Every desktop computer since I bought the parts and built it myself.

As far as laptops I have two Toshiba laptops that I never had any problems with. So I voted Toshiba because I havn't have any problems with them.

One company to stay away from is eMachines. My parents had one of those, it was getting fixed what seemed like every second month. The hard drive died, the ram died, the DVD drive died twice, and the motherboard died. That was a lot of repairs for a computer we only had for about a year. Finally my parents had enough and replaced it. I know a couple other people that had nothing but problems with eMachines also.

I have an Acer. I don't like Gateway very much. My last laptop was one.

I am not going to pick any of those since I don't ever plan to buy a computer from a company again. I'd rather pick out every single little thing on my PC myself plus its cheaper and better quality and you get warranties on all the parts.

I used to build them myself with off the wholesalers shelf components. ( and still do for gaming).... but i have been buying Hp's for the office ( w / hot swappable drives) and have been having excellent luck with them in the last 5 years. Their quadcores are realy good for our application. The only problem was we had to change the opperating system for the networking.

I have a Compaq. It's done fairly well, especially for how much I use it. IE most of the time, but I also have Opera.
