Well, pretty mellow day. I posted for a while on my favorite forums, which include BigSoccer and CysticFibrosis.com. While at the latter, I learned of a very close call, which still may not work out. "Pepe", a young woman with CF, went into complete pulmonary failure a couple of days ago. She was put on an ECMO machine, which apparently breathes for her (anybody know about this?), up to about 10 days, which is not much time. Well...her new lungs were available 8 hours later, and she went in for transplant, which was successful, at least as far as the procedure went.
Unfortunately, within a few hours, she started bleeding internally, and was rushed back in for another 7 or so hours of surgery. Still no word as to whether she survived.
I feel distant, but shocked in a way, kind of like Di's death or 9/11. She is not a friend, but a friend of a friend, and, dare I use the word..."popular". You kind of hope she makes it. It does conjure up memories of when an actual CF friend of mine had her transplant. A happy, suspenseful, tiresome time. But we eventually parted ways with our friendship. No one's fault, just a disagreement on things.
As far as fireworks, it was limited to Channel 11's coverage of local fireworks, followed by Channel 2's airing Boston's big hoo-rah. I had to go to Target to get some groceries, and that couldn't wait. Among other things, I got me some nutella, but for the life of me, I have no clue what to spread it on.
I also looked into getting a tub of Vegemite online from an Aussie goods importer. But how the heck do you make a Vegemite sandwich? Some folks say you butter the bread first, others say you don't. Any experience with this?
I finally got my surgical consultation appointment at Hillman Cancer Center to see how my recent MRI's and X-Ray went, and see if they reccommend spinal cord surgery. My mother will be in town from California, but not my father. My mother is extremely emotional and high strung. I am not. We clash. It gets annoying. I secretly hope she is not around for my surgery if I have it.
Heartburn heartburn heartburn! I had a chicken salad croissant, a bag of Doritos and a water at Target. I'm afraid to sleep!

You can butter the bread first if you want, but I find people do it mostly to take away a little bit of the salty, bitter taste of the stuff. I normally do this myself as I find it enhances the taste!Quote:I also looked into getting a tub of Vegemite online from an Aussie goods importer. But how the heck do you make a Vegemite sandwich? When it comes to Vegemite, there is one golden rule you must remember: Spread it on THINLY. I've seen foreigners spread the stuff on bread/toast before as if it were peanut butter. It's not, and unless you are used to the taste, you'll find it completely abhorrent. As a rule of thumb, the spread should be that thin that you can still see most of the bread.
As a personal fan of Vegemite though, I like to spread it on a bit more thicker. Hell, I grab a teaspoon and eat the stuff straight from the jar. I should probably make a tutorial video on it.
Or maybe not... YouTube - How to Prepare Vegemite Toast is a good example of how to prepare the stuff. Although they use a bit too much butter for my liking.Posted 05-07-2008 at 05:55 AM by Lukie

Cool, thanks! I kind of thought that was exactly how to do it, but wasn't sure. I always use a butter substitute like Country Crock or Brummel and Brown on my toast. But I find butter (or "butter") to have a strong taste, so I don't like to spread too much on. I go nuts with the jam, though, so I reckon I'd be towing a fine line with the b and the v.
Have you ever had marmite?
(btw, love the cork hat. Do you have one?)Posted 05-07-2008 at 09:14 AM by Footed P.J.
