Why Are Some Fursonas Common/Uncommon?

i was just wondering why people usually go for the more common canine, lupus, feline types rather than amphibians or even say like beavers or bears and such. is it easier for people to connect with them for some reason?
as for myself i consider my fursona a horse type, but those types are still rare to come by in certain areas.

Lack of originality.

Foxes, wolves ...etc are appealing to look at.
It's human nature to be attracted to something beautiful / cute so it comes to no surprise that they're irritatingly popular.

Why be an ugly gorilla or bat when you can be majestic with little effort into the lame character you choose to represent yourself as?

It's rare when a person truly comes across as the fursona they represent themselves as, especially true for canines.
I'm not saying all furries who choose a popular animal as a fursona are void of any originality but you can tell immediatly when someone hasn't put any thought whatsoever into a fursona just leech themselves onto the most popular animal they can think of and be done with it, I'm a furry now yay.

I have 3 fursonnas one being a very odd combanatoin of dog types. One whale and a poler bear. those aremine so i don't go with the common as much

I'm an otter, I know there are other otters out there, but not nearly as many as the canines/felines, or even equines and bovines.

I have three fursonas: two foxes and a wolf.
I chose these species because they were my two favorite animals (still could be lack of originality but in truth, I have liked these animals as long as I can remember, and didn't notice that when I was introduced to the 'fandom

)
Needless to say, I'm a bit annoyed that my species are so popular

Well, I just chose wolf because that's how I felt it fit best, something that can be very mean but also something that can be nice, also, I really like dogs. I thought it would work best with all these simple things put together, sure I didn't put a whole lot of thought behind it but I did put some thought and it wasn't just because wolves are popular, it was just a fairly quick decision.

BAWWWWW!! I chose a feline because I like cats. I have a lack of creativity then!!! Well, anyways there are less Jaguars than foxes.

Which brings up another interesting question... Why so many? And for that matter, what about the furs who are combinations of many animals?

For me, I chose panther just because I have many of the same tendencies. Territorial, moody, stand-off-ish, loyal when I have to be, etc..

I guess many people just can't relate to frogs or fish or others.
