I don't think so. I wouldn't pick some other animal just for the sake of being original (though I -kinda- did by going with a gray fox rather than a red fox...). I'm sure many others feel the same way. It's not completely about creativity, though that can be a huge part of it sometimes.

I think canine and feline fursonas are common because people have dogs and cats as pets. Though they probably won't have a tiger, fox, panther, or wolf as a pet. I'm not saying it's the sole reason, but I think it's one factor. A little bit of proof... |

I'm saying some people choose to be certain popular species just because they're popular, which is silly. |

Hmmmm... at the end of the day does it really matter how/what/who/why someone takes on a 'fursona'? Is it important whether it's common or not?
It's like diapers and underwear - does it really matter what someone wears under their clothes? Whatever the reason? Life is too short to worry about questions like these. If you are happy with the fursona you have chosen, for whatever reason from spiritual to mental to dressing up, then I'll give you a hug and say 'enjoy'. If you wear diapers then a double hug. My response to anyone is... So What? It hurts/affects noone else and is none of their business. |

I'm a bunny...why am I a bunny? I don't know...I just AM!
I've taken a couple of those "what anthro type are you?" quizzes and always I am a bunny. (I took them AFTER I decided I was a bunny tho') I'm not just any bunny tho'...I'm a tiny lil baby bunny with soft pink fur and long silky ears 'n a cute lil powder-puff tail! Oh yeah, 'n I have this penchant for hiding in the fur of a certain foxxy 'n using his tail as a blanket! (It's very warm 'n cosy 'n SAFE there!) |

I chose a skunk because I wanted to be something that not everyone was! Somethign rather rare. I love horseys but they are indeed rare. My first thought was a wolf of course but when I saw my pack would consist of like 70% of the furries in teh world I backed off immediatly o.o
Skunks are cute and the only problem is the bias for smell! I think that being a community of 'furries' most people wouldnt be too linked with amphibians since they lack a fur XD Felines and canines are all immensely cute and most known. When it comes to being a furrie most people identify themselves with that which they like more. Bunnies, kitties, dogs, and even foxes are the most known furres and equines, squirrels, dragons and others aren't immediately bound to the world of furres....or at least thats what I think may be going through the heads of the many kitties and wuffies and all! I don't mind the amount of'em at all! ^^ |

I chose a white tiger because I've always had an attraction to them. When I was little I always thought when my stomach growled, there was a tiger in my tummy who was yelling at me for food. I would always play as the white ranger when we played Power Rangers because Tommy was the white tiger. I put up a white tiger poster before I even knew about furries. So. Common as it may be, I connect with white tigers.
