Oh! I'm still not sure how worked out this. Also, I'd been thinking about this for ages. I just guess we were at the same stage but you called yourself part of the fandom whereas I honestly didn't believe I was/was in denial.

The best thing to do when you hit Furnet or Anthrochat is to hit /list
which will give the entire channel listing and give at least a rough idea of which ones to steer clear of and which ones should be fine.

If you want to get more involved IRL I'd say look for groups on yahoo for local groups, most furries tend to get to gether once in a while, in the uk we're more active and still densely packed so there are meets in each area at least once every 2 months, though in the bigger cities there are more minimeets or the well known LondonFurs group (of which im part) who get together once every three weeks at a pre hired venu for six hours including a structured fursuit walk.

I'd suggest the minimeets and such before you head for conventions as the outlay to get to most cons is a fair wack.

Thanks for the help. I'll look at some of those sites tonight after my room is habitable again. It currently looks like a bomb hitting it would make it more tidy.
