Default IRC Chat Rules and Etiquette

ADISC Chat Rules & Etiquette

Welcome to the ADISC chat guidelines. Everyone is welcome to participate and join in the chat, but we do need to implement some regulations so everyone has a safe and fun time. If you are mindful of these rules and keep yourself out of trouble, you'll be very much welcome in #adisc.

1. Be Polite and Tactful (aka. ADISC's Golden Rule)
This includes being mindful and considerate of each other. Whether it be your words (incl. swearing, racism or otherwise) or the way you are acting, if it could upset someone - keep it to yourself. Being mean to other members, or personally attacking them, is not permitted. Don't ask for their ASL when you first meet them, don't ask probing/personal questions, don't be rude and don't complain when they refuse to elaborate or talk to you.

This does include the use of an offensive/sexual/racist nickname.

2. Be honest, do not lie.
Last thing we want is people giving false information (especially age) to others, particularly if they have ulterior motives. Liars aren't welcome. On that note, if the truth about something is an uncomfortable point for you, then you reserve the right not to comment. You don't have to reveal everything about yourself.

3. Do not impersonate another user.
Under no circumstances will this be tolerated. You can ruin someone's image and reputation by doing this, giving them a huge mess to clean up.

4. Do not spam, flood or advertise in the chat.
The chat is designed for friendly conversation and intelligent discussion between users, not your own personal, selfish behaviour. Spam and flooding are defined as continually posting the same questions, statements or links, or just generally being a nuisance to other people in the chat. "No Advertising" is self-explanatory.

This rule also means not interjecting into, nor interrupting other people's conversations with irrelevant material - such as unwarranted/pointless comments or "Now Playing" scripts.

5. Keep the conversation clean, intelligent and friendly.
Do not promote or recommend anything that is considered taboo, like the use of illicit drugs, law-breaking, or sexual explicitness. Do not encourage someone to undertake in such unlawful pursuits. The best way to follow this rule is to avoid such topics altogether.

6. Follow the moderators direction.
This one goes without saying. Those who goad the moderators, or ignore their polite requests, usually get banned.

Please note: This chat room is English-only. You are allowed to have a small discussion in another language, but don't make it your entire conversation. If you feel the need to talk in another language with someone else, please Private Message each other.
