On a Serious tone, I'd guess that this still is a temporary forum giving the posibility of the data still being recovered. And If I ran this place I'll install these forums to a secure point with minimum work too. We've got other things on our minds. I Just hope this data recovery isn't going to cost Moo a bomb, Even if they can't pull anything thats worth keeping really. But hopefully a simple format didn't kill everything. Again, Since this is a temp Forum, I won't be posting much. As the posibility of it being earased again if the old site is restored. Until that is clarified, I'm not making freqeunt posts. But I do hope the old site can be recovered and anything else on that hard drive. |

EDIT: Ow, my tongue hurts from biting it... Dude, that's pretty rude. You have no right to tell Moo what to do or how to do it. You're not in charge, Moo is, so Moo is the one who makes the decisions, even if you disagree with what they are. Moo pays the bills. Moo's decisions. Live with it. Restoring the site to the way it was (with all the nifty features I had customized the forum with) will take time. I estimate probably 30-50 hours of work on my part. I'm not going to start doing that until the data recovery expert I sent the hard disk to gets back to me about whether the old database and server files can be saved or not. I would *really* rather avoid spending all that time working hard on something that turns out to be useless. On a personal note, I invested a LOT of time, money and effort into the old site. You might have noticed that at times, I was testing out new modifications to the site on a daily basis. Most of the things I tested I ended up not using, but I was always active on it. Losing it was a severe blow to my morale. On a personal level, I need to know what happened to the old site. Whether or not it is recoverable at all. If it is, that will really help motivate me to do the rest of the work of recovering it and setting it back up, because at least I'll have a head start. If it isn't, then I need to know that for sure. Only once I know for sure will I take on the massive and very painful task of re-doing everything. If you want to help, there are some things you can do. Examples include : * finding someone to create a logo for ADISC.org * being patient and supporting the community during this transition |

Is it suppose to be like discreet logo like the name ADISC? If not are than any other restrictions that it can not be? (obviously not anything explicit) I will give it a thought and maybe doodle some and see what I can come up with anything useful. Last edited by Eclipse; 22-01-2008 at 04:02 PM. Reason: grammar |

As Moo said, He has put alot of hours into this. I bet he was running around his house like a headlesss chicken after hearing the bad news. I knew I would. Setting up a new system from scratch takes alot of time. And these things aint click next a few times and wait 30 seconds to install and its down. There is more to the picture than that. Yeah, I have been noticing slight modifications over time both on this temp forum (seems to be the avart things is working) and on the old forum. I guess what I am trying to say ignorance isn't really a good excuse. Do a little researching up. Rather than saying 'he should', but with 'What is he doing' You'll get a simple long list. |

Let us all remember that we are, essentially guests here, at the sufferance of Moo. This site exists by his initiative, sweat, time, and money. Sure we feel a sense of ownership, and therefore a sense of loss, impatience, and frustration at the demise and rebuilding process. Now for a couple of days I have paid attention to the forums over several hours, and watched how different features were added or tweaked. This shows plainly how far the process is from clicking next a few times & finish. This is a big site for 1. the number of people running it and 2. the funding level. And it is being rebuilt in real time, with ongoing functionality. I am sure a site would be easier to erect if it was kept down until it was built then turned on. So it is incumbent on us not only to be patient with the process but to be as indulgent and helpful as we can.
And not bug Moo. I know offence wasn't meant... These are times that try mens' souls. Patience gentle genbaby; "They also serve who only stand and wait." - Milton Last edited by Raccoon; 23-01-2008 at 01:45 AM. |
