ok I would say this is more of a swim diaper, but keep in mind there is no such thing in the first movies as to G. Lucas's Specs. Starwars was a B movie for it's time with a rubber band budget. They did not even make the light sabors. They were just flash guns (the handles from the lighting that was laying around) with gadgets glued on. blaters were old pistols that had stuff glued on, The only thing that was "spec" were the storm trooper suites. It is only the newest movies that have had a no holds budget. The thing that made the movie such a hit to start with was what they were able to do with so little money. Plus keep in mind they were so poor they had to change the story from everyone having light sabors and cut it to only jedi having these chosen weapons.

So given the fact that they were using things that were lying around, it could easily be a diaper that he put on to cover what was needed.

Well to be fair, about half the stuff was custom-fabricated: All of the costumes except Han Solo, Imperial Officers, and the extras, the sets, and the base structures for the model starships were made by hand(Even the Y-wing had 1:144 Airfix Saturn V model rocket parts as the bases for the engines. I know, I'm making one). Empire was where the custom fab stuff really took off.

In any case, in-universe it looks like what it looks like.
