Default Being Able To Edit A Week Later

Unlike the old forum, we have way longer than 24 hours to edit posts before they become set. There are certainly downsides to this (continuity disruption, for instance; ) but having had the opportunity to revisit my own posts and fix things, IMO the extended time-limit for editing is a good thing.

A member has the opportunity to remove offensive material when it is pointed out to them: from bad language, to inappropriate links, to flaming, to not using proper spelling (like "u" instead of "you".) This can eliminate lots of the negrep that has been spammed lately. I hate to see an otherwise good poster get whalloped with negrep and ruin his reputation over one or two ill-conceived posts. Things like double-posting can be fixed.

I hope it will be put to use. I just PMd someone to comment on a post, instead of negrepping for something I perceived as negative. I'd rather let it be edited if the poster agrees, than negrep and then have it get changed.

I agree totally with that approach Skinnypuppy.
