Not to mention that someone could have replied to you in the thread, but you couldn't get back to it in time to read the reply before it got locked.
I see no reason in deleting threads. I visit another website that has pushed over 4,000,000 posts and every single thread gets locked and archived. It's great when you want to revisit something, or extract old information, or just remember the old times.
