But people like that get banned soon enough anyway. As if gaining -10 rep weren't indication enough, their speech patterns and the way they present themselves usually is. We don't need a whole thread of people just going "Bullshit!" or posting that gif. It's unnecessary. If you think the person is a total creep or whatever, report the post!

I do agree though that sometimes you do need to be a total wanker to get those freaky people off the site. But there's a fine line between being a firm and classy asshole, and just being a total douche. If you haven't mastered the former, then don't try it at all.

That "BS Flag" .gif epitomises the latter. To me, it just shows you've really got nothing to say about the whole thing, nor does it provide any support to the notion that you think it's bullshit.

There's nothing fundamentally with calling bullshit on someone. Sometimes it's just required because the person's story/whatever is so blatantly faux it can't be anything else. But just bloody back yourself up by providing some arguments, that at least it makes you seem more witted and insightful than the person posting the bullshit.

Better yet, if you think it's bullshit, just stay out of the topic if someone has already called it to be a load of crap. Let the thread sink to the bottom of the forum and move on to something else! It amazes me how threads like that reach a couple of pages in 30 minutes, yet decent topics remain as one page for days. I guess mob mentality still rules on mindless topics...

That's why we've got the controversial-but-awesome reputation system.

So what you're saying is that bullshiters deserve a ban, but not the BS flag? Try again. >.>

I'm not saying they should be banned for posting these sorts of stories.

I'm saying that if they feel the need to come on here, tell us some story that has absolutely no truth behind at all and try to pass it off as real, then I doubt there is a place for them in the future of this site.

Generally speaking, the current trend is that people who post these kinds of stories eventually get banned or leave the site anyway. This is just what I've noticed. Usually they also bring with them one of, or any combination of the following:
  • Extreme creepiness
  • More lies, other lies
  • Poor/Annoying grammar, punctuation and spelling
  • A strong magnet so they can attract neg-rep
  • Bizarre behaviour
  • A tendency to not care for advice from other users
  • A "Cry Me a River" attitude when people call bullshit on them
  • A handbook entitled "How To Cause Drama on Web Forums" which they follow word-for-word.

With the present mentality on this site, anyone who brings even just one of these points to the forum usually gets cast aside very quickly. And I have no problem in saying that in some instances they definitely deserve it.

But my overall point is that if people like this don't get banned soon enough, then they'll get neg-repped to hell or told to leave the site. I don't care whether or not they get banned for posting Bullshit Stories, because I know in the [near] future sometime they'll either get banned for some other reason or just leave anyway.

I voted yes, but I meant to vote no.

~_~

I hate the animation, the saying, the premise. I thought there used to be a way to flag posts without anyone knowing but I should have read the post I guess.

So -1 to yes and +1 to no!

Why can't people understand Lukie's point? He is saying, sure, go ahead and call bullshit on them, but don't just say that, show some tact. Because, just showing them the flag with no backing arguments or statements is useless, it shows nothing. It gives no indication as to why you say that or if it's a good reason. And also as Lukie said, the ones that are really bad tend to end up banned or leaving soon enough anyway, why keep saying bullshit when it's already known no one will believe them? If it's far enough out there no one will believe it anyway. Just leave it be and they'll go away soon enough.

The Bullshit flag is about as useful as tits on a bull. I have no idea why people are fighting over it.

Reminds me of a limerick for your digestion.

Should Australian science espouse...
Splitting genes and altering a mouse?
Making test tubes grow wool?
Putting tits on a bull?
Or pricks in Parliament House?

Adisc has a good reputation in the sense that it scares certain people away. By scaring those "certain" people away, we create a safe environment for teens and young adults to be in. Who these "certain" people are is well known to most of us, and I don't think anyone has to give them a name. Whether or not we need an icon for this is upto every individual user to decide, though. Let's keep on scaring icky people away

Let's face it...

It provokes war. As if we don't see enough of that everyday.

I can't think of a single situation where you ain't gonna offend someone with that.

Other than... "look... it says BS... for bullshit! LOLOLOLOLOL"

Which in itself is a waste of 4 seconds.
