They -are- all out to get you. And it -is- as bad as you think. So don't go thinking it's not. Well, maybe I shouldn't have said that, I've seen how you react to sarcasm. |

I agree with introducing a limit to bad rep for a simple reason.
Bad rep are given to someone who spam, start flamewars, insult etc.... For Example, somebody start a bad thread and a member decide to give him/her a bad rep. Another member read the same thread and decide to give him/her a bad rep too, and so, a third and a fourth member do. Well, supposing before that thread the member was at 0 rep, now he is at -4 rep. At -4 rep you become moderated, right? Ok, now this member is moderated, he/she don't need to receive bad rep anymore. Mods control him/her and if he/she continue to have a bad behaviour they can decide to ban him for a short period of time instead to ban him forever. If, after the ban, he/she return spamming/flaming/insulting then mods can think about banning him forever. could it be a solution? |

I would scrap the reputation system if it were down to me. But it isn't.
It's not so bad here, but I've been on some other forums where they take it to more extremes and I've found it can be a couple of people patting each other in the back, brown-nosing and isolating potential long-term members. IMO, moderators can see the trouble makers and ban them if necessary. Similarly, if someone is around for long enough, they gain a reputation without recording it. |

I like Darkfinn's second option (from his post on the first page).
Quite simply, people who attract so much neg-rep must be getting it for a reason. To stop any sort of drama or continued disruptiveness continuing, it's best to place their account in a state where they get reviewed by mods and are only able to post on certain boards. That way, everyone else can get on with their lives and not have to deal with any crap. |

Put people at -10 rep in prison, let them view only the things moderators can, but cannot post at all?
Either that or outright ban, or let them plead with mod's to make them moderated. This is a good idea and also an important discussion, I may very well reach negatives. |

Moderation works fine as it is. How are they supposed to get out of moderation if they can't post. I've seen people come back from alot of neg rep to become well standing members that people barely remember them being moderated at one point. If banning needs to be done moderation will stop them from posting w/o mods approval... theres no need for an auto ban. I really think moderation should stay as it is. I effectively stops malicious posters quickly without a mod needing to act, makes it inconvenient for those who may not be doing bannable things, but aren't being the best members and encourages them to come talk to the mods etc to figure out how to improve. As a member (moo hasn't told mods anything special) I think the main reason why rep's power in what it does on the forums has been limited is because it makes it too easy for people to gang up on someone to moderate them (This is countered by just making the posts require mod approval lets them continue posting) and also friends may tend to give eachother alot of rep while ignoring good posts by others (this is countered by the new special requirement for VIP). While i don't particularily like the requirement for vip being secret i do think its a decent idea to have it based on more than rep as rep is really manipulative. Only moo has access to view rep, but i suspect alot of ganging up and cooperative repping occurs as thats the main reason i can see for why reps power is being limited. Incidentally for those that complain about rep and wanting to get rid of it keep in mind that Moo has done alot to to take away reps influence in the forums with the moderation being just inconvenient and getting vip requiring more than rep. |
