What are the user Wiki articles??

I see articles with user names for titles. What is it? It has always confused me.

People can have their own custom page on the wiki in which they (and everyone else!) can edit as they like. Kind of like a sandbox.

Why do users get them>? LOL. I'm afraid to put one up... Because everyone would put horrible things!
