Default My suggestion

I'm fed up of everyone being 'nice' and polite. I say we have a FLAME board where I can moan about people and be innapropriate and nasty as much as I want. If there was a FLAME board then I'd post more because I wouldn't have to be 'nice' and 'helpful' and 'genuine' every time I posted. I could be sarcastic abusive and intolerant as much as I want and start some good ol' arguments with other people.
Maybe you could make it accessable to people with a reputation below 3 as well so people don't try to make it a 'nice' place.

If you haven't already guessed I'm bored and I'm avoiding my big important essay for uni. I think this idea was inspired by the 'helpful hints' that flash before my eyes as I try to find something amusing on the forum. 'Study hard' 'Get a job' 'try to be normal'

Bollocks to that I say! Start a revolution!

Hm. Would you mind if I moved this to the administrative stuff forum, to see if anyone else likes this idea?

Lets Do It!

LETS ALSO ALLOW MULTIPLE CAPS IN POSTS! BUT ONLY FOR MEMBERS!

It keeps editing out my caps.

I want to get yelled at instead of just getting negative rep. Express your true hatred.

I'm against the idea, no offence.[irony intended]
If someone wants to be unhepfull, rude and mean, he can do that on 4chan or gaia online, not the mention youtube, yahoo answers and a list that goes on technically forever.

This is a support site. I'm not saying that satyre, arguments, rudeness and irony have no place here, but they just have to be kept at reasonable levels for reasons of functionality. A ''Flame war'' sub forum is the last thing that is required in a forum that attracts many people from diverse backrounds. Without wanting to overreact, it would tear the site down and make it a truly decadent place just like 99% of the internet.

I guess I'lll get neged for this, but oh well.

Nobody would force you to go there Dusk. Besides we could even have a policy that if your rep is took high then you are deemed to nice and thoughtful to contribute.

A flame board...

Well countries don't usually have designated law-free zones where you can kill/steal/rape/fight/whatever, so I don't see why we should have a thread or forum where people can break one of the important rules of ADISC: Don't flame. (Yes this is a terrible analogy, but I'm tired... the point still stands though!)

If you want to flame and be inappropriate I'd rather you do it on a site that promotes that kind of thing. Like Dusk said, this is a support site! This thread is like requesting a casino room for a church.

And making this forum only for people with low rep!? That would just make two classes of members: sensible members with high rep, and jackasses who would never post anything good out of fear of positive rep!

For this to work, it would require that the rules change, but I don't see the rules changing, nor do I really think that they should. I believe it would go against the very standards of TBDL at its foundations. As a community (which is the key word, here), we are betrothed to being respectful and kind to one another. We've already stated that "memes" and insulting, uninsightful responses to posts just go to reducing the quality here.

Even if we reduce and restrain this activity to one thread, one board, we're still encouraging activity of that sort. Facepalms will be abound; insults will be abound; "Tits or GTFO," will be abound; we will be insulting for the sake of insulting, which never has a purpose at all. We will be embracing a matter of online communication (flaming, in this case) that really has no communicative point behind it.

Expressing this true hatred, as Alex puts it, really just goes to start the ball rolling -- when you find out you hate somebody or dislike them, you're going to be more prone to giving them negative reputation. Why? Because this feels like, to this board, what the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand was to World War I -- a catalyst to a lot of small feelings that explode into huge, destructive ones.

Then what's to keep us from making the "hate" disrespectful? Would it be totally within limits for me to call a fellow member of the community, if he was black, a "nigger"? Would that be allowed? What if I chose to call a homosexual member a "faggot" just because he was pissing me off?

That would be disgusting, and this community is not a disgusting place.

Just take a few moments to look at those words, think of how they make you feel, and remember that this board needs none of those to be tossed in hateful and angry ways, and opening a board up like this would totally welcome it.

It would be impossible to be policed properly. A community like this needs guidance in every aspect.

I'm definitely not for this. If you can't say what you want to say without being blatantly insulting, then you either need to learn another way to say it, or say absolutely nothing at all.
