Mayor and councilperson of an Alaskan town of around six thousand people.

Now, personally I think all this stuff and nonsense about experience or gravitas and such is irrelevant and superficial packaging and PR - a distraction from the substantive issues and policies that the candidates represent, but playing the experience card is not going to anywhere near as easy as it has been for the McCain campaign now. If it matters for a presidential candidate then it matters for a VP who is a heartbeat away from taking the top job from a man in his seventies who has suffered from cancer.

Whatever I might think about the relevance of experience it is a potentially effective card and now every time it's brought up by the Republicans there is an easy counter from the Democrats that they didn't have before. I think it's a hell of a gamble from McCain and it's going to change the dynamics of the election notably. Quite a lot depends on her now and it will be interesting to see how she fares against Biden in the debates.
