I was probably asexual in middle school and early high school. I dated guys because that was what you were supposed to do, but I didn't do it with much enthusiasm.
I think a lot of people who describe themselves as asexual are probably like I was in high school. Their peer groups, whether it be high school or college or even work, are people who they don't really fit in with and don't have much in common with so they don't see anyone who they'd ever want to date and feel like they have no sexual interests. I was never sexually attracted to women since I'm straight, but I had no interest in dating most of the guys in my high school; they seemed immature and annoying, and the ones who didn't come across that way were not people who I found particularly physically attractive. Alas, that's the way it often seems to go.
