Interesting that you mention this; i'm (eventually) going to setup something similar, with multiple cameras to cover the office area upstairs at my apartment. There is (or will be) a reasonable amount of expensive computer and telephony equipment here, and I want evidence to prosecute, should anything ever happen to it.
There was a case here (in the UK) where a thief was sucessfully convicted of theft using a similar setup. He even stole the PC recording the images, but wasn't aware that they were being forwarded to a remote server upon capture.
He even provided a clear image of his face during the incident, how kind of him!
